Open Barbers, a hairdressing service for all genders and sexualities, defy the conventions of traditional salons and barbers. By setting up shop at Beck Street, they created a positive space for individual identity – avoiding gender stereotypes and expectations based on physical appearance.
Accompanying the barbers downstairs were a series of treatment rooms upstairs at SYSON, which one accessed while waiting for a haircut – embracing the gallery’s temporary transformation to a salon for one day. Projects by Candice Jacobs, Dunya Kalantery & Angelica Sule. Artist nail designs included BEHIND THE X, Patrick Coyle, Nicky Deeley, Clea Jentsch, Alice Morey, Bella Pace, Adrianna Palazzolo, Kate Rieppel and Rafał Zajko.
